The Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST), Professor Christian Agyare, has continued a stakeholder engagement tour with courtesy visits to key government and public institutions aimed at strengthening partnerships and advancing collaboration in education, healthcare, research and national development.
The engagements, which formed part of his post-investiture appreciation tour, included visits to the Ministry of Education, the Office of the Chief of Staff, the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ministry of Health and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
Earlier, Professor Agyare and members of the University Management paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Education, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, where discussions centred on government support for KNUST’s development agenda, including the completion of the University’s Teaching Hospital through funding from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).
The Minister also reaffirmed the importance of KNUST maintaining its position as Ghana’s leading science and technology institution while strengthening its contribution to national development.
Chief of Staff
As part of the continued engagements, Professor Agyare paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Staff, Dr. Julius Debrah, at the Jubilee House to express appreciation for his support and participation in his investiture ceremony held on Aug. 1, 2026.
The Vice-Chancellor presented Dr. Debrah with a commemorative plaque as a gesture of appreciation. The plaque was designed and produced by the Department of Art and Industrial Art at KNUST, showcasing the creativity and expertise of the University’s students and staff.
Dr. Debrah expressed appreciation for the gesture and commended the University after learning that the plaque was produced by KNUST.
Ghana Armed Forces
Professor Agyare also paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, at the Burma Camp in Accra.
The visit provided an opportunity for the Vice-Chancellor to express gratitude to the CDS for attending his investiture ceremony despite his demanding schedule.
“Out of his busy schedule, the CDS still managed to come and be part of my investiture at KNUST on August 1. As is customary, I have come to express my appreciation and present this commemorative plaque as a gesture of gratitude for his support and participation,” Professor Agyare said.
The Chief of Staff at the General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces, Air Vice Marshal Joshua Mensah Larkai, who received the plaque on behalf of Lieutenant General Agyapong, congratulated Professor Agyare on his appointment and reaffirmed the strong relationship between KNUST and the Ghana Armed Forces.
“As we have had a very good working relationship with you since you took over, we have a mutual memorandum of understanding (MOU) that we are in the process of signing, particularly concerning the medical facility,” Air Vice Marshal Larkai said.
He also appealed for continued support for members of the Armed Forces whose children seek admission to KNUST.
Health Sector Engagements
The Vice-Chancellor further engaged stakeholders within the health sector through visits to the Ministry of Health and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
Professor Agyare was accompanied by the Registrar, Mr. Benjamin Owusu; the Finance Officer, Dr. Charles Nsiah; Dr. (Mrs.) Joy S. Amankwah, Senior Registrar and Head of the University’s Accra Office; Mr. Emmanuel Offei from the University Relations Office; and Ing. Eugene Antwi Boasiako.
